ALAM demands justice for murdered Valenzuela transport group president

Alab ng Mamamahayag (ALAM) is demanding police authorities in Valenzuela to find and arrest the person who killed the president of the Valenzuela City chapter of Public Transport Alliance of the Philippines (PTAP).

This call is being aired in support of the No. 1 ally of ALAM, a partylist group that has been organized by a group of media persons, including provincial and community newspapermen and broadcasters, in order to improve the lot of those who practice and love the liberty of the press.

PTAP has been the first of the volunteer organization that has strongly supported and endorsed the agenda of ALAM.

PTAP, that has more than 10,000 members all over the country, organized recently a townhall meeting in Calaca, Batangas attended by more than 30 presidents of tricycle operators and drivers associations in the towns of Tuy and Calaca.

PTAP chairman Sonny Anarna and PTAP president Orly Sabelita told ALAM president Berteni "Toto" Cataluña Causing, who is also a legal counsel of PTAP, that until now justice is yet to be found for Richard.

ALAM chairman Jerry S. Yap, who is also the president of National Press Club, pledged to work hard for the police investigate incessantly into the death of Ilagan.

The project of PTAP called "Piso Mula Sa Puso" was proposed by the late Valenzuela PTAP president Richard Ilagan in order to help its members who are in distress.

Ironically, it is him who is now the beneficiary of his brainchild.

"We also expressed our deepest sympathy to the families of Richard Ilagan and we denounce this dastardly act that suppress freedom of expression and freedom for association," Yap said.

It is now Anarna and Sabelita who are asking all PTAP members nationwide to send One Peso each to be given to the grieving families of Richard and to help in the search for justice.

Two weeks before he was slain, on the day the last time Valenzuela PTAP held a meeting, Anarna told Causing that Richard told him:

"CHAIRMAN.... GUSTO KO WALANG MAGHIHIRAP ANG KALOOBAN SA MGA KASAPI AT KAALYADO NG PTAP KAPAG MAY NAGKASAKIT, MAY NASUGATAN, MAY NAAKSIDENTE, AT HIGIT SA LAHAT AY MAY NAMATAY, ASAWA, ANAK NA KINAKANDILI PA, MGA KAPATID NA KINAKANDILI, MGA MAGULANG, MGA BIYENAN, SIEMPRE MGA ORIG (BIRO PA NYA), SIGURO NAMAN ANG HALAGANG PISO NA MULA SA PUSO AY HINDI MAHIRAP DUKUTIN AT MASAYANG IBIBIGAY SA MGA KASAMANG NANGANGAILANGAN NG PAGKALINGA NG PTAP."

The funds that would be collected nationwide would be given to Mrs. Jovita Ilagan, who may be contacted at 09199248110.

Mrs. Ilagan's address is at 22 Daang Bato St., Bgy. Lawang Bato, Valenzuela City.
