"Speculation, speculation, speculation, speculation" -- Brillantes
"Speculation, speculation, speculation, speculation" -- Brillantes
This word "speculation" has been repeated over a hundred times by Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes during the hearing this morning (March 12, 2013) of the Complaint for Acts of Impropriety filed by Alab ng Mamamahayag (ALAM) chairman Jerry S. Yap against Comelec Commissioner Lucenito Tagle and Commissioner Elias Yusoph.
We repeatedly insisted that it is up to the Commission to sanction the two commissioners or not for the appearance of impropriety in the act of Tagle and Yusoph in having a lunch date with Congressman Noli Fuentebella.
We have already done our duty of filing the complaint on the basis of the evidence consisting of the photos taken by Mr. Jerry S. Yap inside a Japanese restaurant at Diamond Hotel, and his testimonies on his personal knowledge.
These photos taken on October 10, 2012 show Commissioners Yusoph and Tagle in a lunch date with Rep. Noli Fuentebella, at a time when there was filed a petition to deny due course to the certificate of candidacy of Aga Muhlach.
Muhlach filed his candidacy for congressman of the 4th District of Camarines Sur on October 5, 2012, running against Wimpy Fuentebella, a son of Rep. Fuentebella.
We repeatedly stated to the Commission that in our eyes and perhaps in the eyes of the voters, it is bad to look at the two commissioners lunching with a man whose family's political interest has been threatened by a popular actor and that there was filed a petition that when granted will benefit no less than the son of that man.
The Commissioners who also attended the hearing were Commissioner Grace Padaca, Commissioner Robert Christian Lim, and Commissioner Elias Yusoph.
