Is 'presently' the same as 'currently'? NO!

Symbol of simplicity in English

Hello my dear OFWs, my FB friends, and all the Filipinos!
(Hello mga mahal kong OFWs, mga kaibigan ko sa FB, at lahat ng mga Filipino!)

In pursuance of my advocacy to help OFWs sharpen their "English", I am posing this question:
(Sa pagpapatuloy ko sa aking adhiaking makatulong sa mga OFWs na mapapatalas pa ang kanilang "English", aking nilalahad ang tanong na ito:)

Does the word "PRESENTLY" mean the same as "CURRENTLY"?

(Magkapareho lang ba ang salitang "PRESENTLY" sa kahulugan kung ihambing sa "CURRENTLY"?)

No!
(Hindi!)

They are different from each other.

(Sila ay magkaiba sa isat-isa.)

"Currently" means "at present" or "in the present."

(Ang "currently" ay katumbas ng "at present" o "sa kasalukuyan" o "in the present.")

"Presently" means "in a short while" or "soon".
(Ang "presently" ay "malapit na" o "maya-maya" ang ibig sabihin.)

Let me give an example for the use of "currently."

(Hayaan nyo na bigyan ko kayo ng halimbawa ng paggamit ng salitang "currently" o "sa kasalukuyan".)

"Currently, we are experiencing heavy rains."  This means that at the time of uttering the statement, the rains were heavy.

("Sa kasalukuyan kami ay nakakaranas ng malakas na ulan." Ibig sabihin nito, sa oras na sinasabi ang nasabing pangungusap, malakas ang ulan.)

You can state this in another way: "At present, we are experiencing heavy rains."
(Pwede rin itong sabihin sa ibang paraan: "Sa ngayon, nakakaranas kami ng malakas na ulan.")

Now, let us use "presently" in an example.
(Ngayon, gamitin natin ang "presently" sa halimbawa.)

"Presently, the prettiest woman here is appearing on stage."  You can also state this in another way: "Soon, the prettiest woman here is appearing on stage"; and in still another way: "In a short while, the prettiest woman here is appearing on stage."

("Maya-maya lang, ang pinakamagandang babae dito ay aakyat sa entablado."  Pwede rin itong sabihin sa ganitong paraan: "Malapit na, ang pinakamagandang babae dito ay aakyat na sa entablado"; at masasabi rin sa isa pang paraan: "Madali na lang, aakyat na sa entablado ang pinakamagandang babae rito.)

I hope I will no longer hear or read any OFW posts on Facebook using "presently" incorrectly.
(Ako ay nagkakapag-asa na hindi na ako makakarinig o makakabasa ng anumang nai-post ng mga OFW sa Facebook na mali ang paggamit ng salitang "presently".)
