HONOR THY ARTS HEROES, HEROINES
HONOR THY
ARTS HEROES, HEROINES
Alab
ng Mamamahayag (ALAM) and National Press Club (NPC) urge the National Commission
for Culture and Arts (NCCA) to start the process now for the official proclamation
of veteran actors Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon, Joseph “Erap” Estrada and Eddie “Manoy”
Garcia and superstars Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos as national artists in the
field of cinema.
These
five undoubtedly achieved perfection in their arts that have made them idols of
the Filipino masses.
Giving
due recognition to extraordinary feats in arts as what these five have
registered is indispensable not only to honor the heroes and heroines in arts
but mainly to give inspiration to aspiring young artists and the unborn
generations to achieve better than they think they can.
Honoring
extraordinary feats also puts in record those standards by which all later
generations would take as a reckoning point to aim higher and to raise the bar
of excellence.
Furthermore,
one aspect where hundreds of Filipino tribes and cultures could meet to promote
understanding and unity is by giving premium to performances in arts by every
individual from any tribes.
Genius
in arts springs anywhere. No one tribe or culture or religion has the monopoly
of extraordinary feats.
Additionally,
honoring thy heroes and heroines in arts as national artists is an act of
honoring God because ALAM and NPC believes that extraordinary talents in arts
are God-given.
There
have been thousands of actors and actresses who have graced the Philippine
movie scene. But only a few have
achieved the marks to give the best entertainment the Filipino has ever
watched.
And
for being among the few, Dolphy, Erap, Manoy, Vilma and Nora no doubt more than
deserve the honors to be crowned as the national treasures or national jewels
that the Filipino should cherish forever.
Let
us honor thy heroes and heroines in arts!
